Netmail

FidoNet point-to-point mail — like email, but routed over BinkP
through the FidoNet/fsxNet/etc. network instead of SMTP.

How it differs from Echomail

Feature Netmail Echomail
Audience One specific node An echo-area subscribers
Routing Explicit Zone:Net/Node Network-distributed
Privacy Sealed envelope Public area
Reply Net-mail back to sender Reply in the area

Composing

/netmail/compose (web) — picks recipient by node address + name.
The compose form supports markdown for the body and adds a kludge
line (@MSGID:, @INTL, @TZUTC) automatically.

Inbox

/netmail/inbox. Unread netmail shows in the badge in the nav.

AreaFix

AreaFix@<your-node> is a virtual recipient that lets other
sysops subscribe to your areas without bothering you. Configure
allowed areas in /admin/echomail/areafix/.

Routing

If you peer with multiple uplinks, you can configure routing rules
(zone 1 via 1:104/315, else via 21:1/1). Most small installs use
a single uplink and don't need routing.

Encryption

Bare FidoNet netmail is not encrypted. For secrets, encrypt the
body yourself (PGP, age) — the network treats it as opaque.
