Getting Started
Welcome! Here's the short path from "I just discovered this BBS" to
"I'm reading messages and playing doors."
1. Create an account
Pick the access path that suits you and register:
| Path | URL | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Web | /register |
Email + password — fastest |
| Telnet | port 23 | Choose (N)ew user at the prompt |
| SSH | port 22 | Same (N)ew user flow over SSH |
After registering, the sysop may require you to answer a few
questions — these are configured per-BBS and seen on first login.
See New User Questionnaire for details.
2. Find your way around
- The main menu is the top-level launchpad. On terminal access
it's the ANSI menu you see right after login. On the web it's the
navbar at the top of every page. - Most features are reachable from both UIs. The wiki tries to note
where one is fuller than the other.
3. Try something low-stakes
A nice on-ramp:
- Read a few Bulletins — short sysop-curated notices.
- Browse the Message Boards and reply to a thread.
- Check the RSS Reader for BBS-scene news.
- Play a door game — LORD or TradeWars are classics.
4. Set your profile
Edit your profile from the user menu (web: top-right username
dropdown; terminal: Y on the main menu). Add a tagline, signature,
or avatar — these show up next to your posts.
5. Say hello
Drop into Chat and introduce yourself. The IRC and MRC bridges
mean someone is usually around.
